La Habra traces its roots back to the pass through the mountains that was found nearby and the land was primarily used to raise cattle until the severe flooding followed by drought drove them to bankruptcy. In the 1890’s parcels of Rancho de La Habra were sold off to farmers who began to grow grain and raise sheep here. The community of La Habra was established in 1896 with a post office and later in 1925 the city was incorporated. In the early 1900’s the water situation was stabilized and farmers began growing walnut, citrus, and avocado. This small bedroom community experienced moderate growth in the later part of the 1900’s and has won an All-American City Award for outstanding achievement as a city.
