Westminster Exterminator

Westminster is the second colony in Orange County and was founded in 1870 by Reverend Webber as a temperance Colony. The first export of young Westminster was celery and they had some of the most productive celery fields in the world. Dairy was the next big industry here and creameries were opened to export the all types of dairy products. Due to the temperance history grapes were not initially harvested here but by the turn of the century they gave in and began producing grapes. By the 1940s the agricultural community in Westminster was dominated by orange groves, lima beans, and sugar beet fields.

The agricultural nature of the city began to change in the 1950’s as many military families who were here during WWII decided to permanently relocate to the area. Developers moved in bought up farms and built numerous tracts of houses. Another major change occurred in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, many Southeast Asian refugees escaped upheaval in their homelands to California. A large group began to settle in Westminster and Little Saigon was born out of the great tragedy of the Vietnam War. Today Westminster is a thriving diverse community with very strong religious roots.
